In Memory of John Parres
It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of John Parres, founder, legal counselor, and cherished friend of Burundi Miracle Project (BMP). John spent countless hours of his retirement years advocating for Mama Georgette and BMP. He enjoyed telling everyone he knew about the extraordinary work being done by her in the tiny, sub-Saharan country of Burundi. In fact, he re-titled his 90th birthday to “A Celebration of Lives” where he recognized many friends who had inspired him, but most of all, he wanted to celebrate Mama Georgette, who, in his mind, surpassed them all.
Give STL Day Supports a Different Kind of Orphan
In 2010, I attended a gathering where Tim Baldwin (Director of Refuge of Nations) made a support appeal on behalf of Mama Georgette. She wanted to open a childcare facility in Burundi, similar to the one she had been running in St. Louis on Bates Street. There was a dilapidated house in Bujumbura that she wanted to rent, renovate, and open as a daycare center.
A Remarkable People
In the heart of Burundi, amidst immense challenges, Mama Georgette and her daughter Sandra lead the Burundi Miracle Project, listening to the needs of their community rather than imposing solutions. Through programs like orphanages and assisted living homes, they empower Burundians to help themselves, serving as agents of reconciliation and hope in their homeland.

Orphanage Is 10 Years Old!
On November 28, we will be kicking off a special campaign to help Mama Georgette celebrate ten miraculous years of La Providence Orphanage by completely funding it for 2024. It’s our way of encouraging her and the staff in Burundi to keep up the good work!
